Soundwave blue tapedeck3/20/2023 The War of Cybertron retro-designed G1 Soundwave as essentially the same, but transforming into a squarish truck. Dark of the Moon finally had Soundwave adapt the Earthen mode of a Mercedes Benz SLS AMG, with Laserbeak again simply reporting to him instead of popping out of him. And he totally shot Ravage down from space. Revenge of the Fallen did the simple and creative solution of making Soundwave a cybertronian satellite that never adopted an Earthen alternate mode, and by being a satellite it can retain the whole Decepticon communications officer/hacker angle. Animated did their own spin with Soundwave, turning him into a bulky robot with a Scion van alternate mode, and the minions are. And even then it was basically the G1 design with wings that folded into an awkward-looking 'stealth jet', with Laserbeak reimagined as a bomb. So Soundwave had sat on the backburner, probably the only major first-season character not to get a new toy until 2006 (Machine Wars is a repaint and the bat/crocodile Beast Wars Mutants don't really count), during the Cybertron toyline. The problem is how to keep the minion gimmick whilst still retaining the 'communications' angle of the tape deck. While Megatron's gun mode could simply be changed into jets and tanks without much fan backlash, Soundwave's shtick was that he was able to eject his little troops out of his tape cavity which ended up on his chest. It's doubtful that any kids now even knew what a cassette is, let alone be interested in a transforming cassette player. See, G1 Soundwave turns into a microcassette player, a tape deck, if you will. While Starscreams and Optimuses can simply take whatever new jet or truck that look similar to their G1 persona, Soundwave's alternate mode has always proven. Soundwave's design has always been problematic to translate into modern media. Size Class: Transformers Prime -Robots in Disguise Deluxe Class Soundwave is a great toy if for the robot mode alone. It's a great homage to the original. The vehicle mode is nice, but not terribly exciting.Blackjack's Review: Soundwave Name: Soundwave But, perhaps were not meant to look at it except from the front or sides. He does seem a little bland appearance with the sheer volume of blue in this mode. His weapons can plug into either side, above the rear wheels or you can store them in the usual place.īeing a Cybetronian vehicle, Soundwave doesn't really look like anything from our modern world. His feet and legs fold around to form the back and roof of the vehicle mode. His shoulder panels cover his head and hs arms fold along the sides. Instead, his chest cavity serves as weapon storage.Īs there were no 80's style tape decks 4 million years ago on Cybertron, Soundwave instead transforms into an armored car of sorts. His chest opens as well, though there are no Recordicons to fit in there. Each one is a homage to the weapons of the original toy. He comes with two weapons which he can hold in either hand or plug into his right shoulder. He has 21 points of articulation, missing only waist movement due to his transform design. His eyes are blood red, as a Decepticon's eyes should be. In robot mode, Soundwave is mostly dark blue and gray with silver accents and gold trim. He retains some of his classic look while being distinctly not a tape deck. The second and last, as of this moment, Decepticon toy from the War for Cybertron video game is Soundwave.
